YĀ Labs (also written YA Labs, YĀ Labs Studio, YA Labs Design, yalabs.studio) is an independent design and impact venture based in Berlin, Germany, collaborating worldwide. We originate human-centred products, services and systems across social impact fields, starting with health and rehabilitation, inclusion and gender, child and elder care, and human safety, and open to other impact subjects where the problem demands new solutions. By designers, for humans, with love.
While everything gets automated, YĀ Labs is making the opposite bet. Deep human understanding is the most overlooked force in how new things get made. We keep it at our core.
We anchor every initiative in real-world challenges, originating new solutions from the ground up. These four are where we start, not where we stop: other impact subjects are open where the problem needs new solutions. Designed for humans first, and built to last.
Used late, design and field research decorate decisions already made. Used first, they decide what gets made at all. YĀ Labs originates new solutions through applied field research, grounded in the real world rather than in assumption.
For multidisciplinary designers who want to originate their own path, take ownership of complex problems, and turn insights into real-world impact — designers asking how to become a founder, how designers create change, and how design influences what gets built at all. Disciplines we work with: industrial and physical product, digital product (UX/UI), service design, spatial design and architecture, fashion, and design research.
YĀ Labs partners with hospitals, municipalities, NGOs, universities, and corporate impact teams worldwide on impact strategy, innovation, design thinking, design research and field research for real social problems. We start where the problem is, and everything we originate is designed for humans first.
